Louisville weather is classified as subtropical, and is typified by its distinct seasons, its summers predominated by humid conditions while the winters are characteristically cold.

Louisville weather in Spring
Springtime sets over Louisville around mid March and runs right through to mid May.  Louisville weather during the spring season is graced by sunny and warmer temperatures. Due to air accumulation sweeping through the city, temperatures are unpredictable and tend to vary greatly. It’s not unusual for temperature to start from daytime highs of 29 C and then drop to a much cooler 13 C in the evenings. Another characteristic feature of weather in Louisville during the spring season is that quite frequently sunny, warm days are followed by much cooler conditions the very next day, a factor attributed to  conditions like thunderstorms, severe hail, gusts of wind and tornadoes that roll through the city.

Louisville weather in Summer
Louisville weather during the summer season is typified by cloudy, hot, and muggy conditions. High humidity levels during the season are due to the release of the humidity from the Gulf of Mexico. Consequently temperatures can reach highs of 31 C, and an average of 31 days during the season see highs of 34 C; on numerous days temperatures can even soar to as high as 38 C, with the evenings being much cooler averaging between 18 C and 24 C.

The wettest seasons are spring and summer, but precipitation is fairly steady through out the year. Thunderstorms are often present during summer (June through to August) averaging 4 inches of rainfall, or 44.5 inches annually. When clouds and rain have disappeared the skies are full of sunshine.

Louisville weather in Autumn
Autumn weather in Louisville is characterized by pleasantly warm days averaging temperatures of 24 C. During the autumn season high humidity levels disappear easing into cool crisp days and mild temperatures. During September warmer temperatures of around 29 C can still be experienced but can plummet to around 17 C by November. Louisville weather experiences its first frost for autumn by the end of October.

Louisville weather in Winter
Weather in Louisville during winter is cold and chilly thanks to the influence of Canadian Arctic air mass chilling the city. The coldest months are December, January and February. January is by far the coldest month of the year, with average daily temperatures hovering around 5 C, frequently dropping to a cold -1°C. An abundant amount of snowfall is experienced during the winter months, with the majority occurring during January and February, reaching annual averages of around 16 inches. A major snowstorm can unload around 5 inches of snow. Weather in Louisville is punctuated with an average of 87 days with temperatures dropping below freezing.  Precipitation levels are 3 inches during the winter season.
